OverviewJoin SDP for the third 2021 Open Mic Forum: Energy Storage Systems & New Technologies. This 1-hour forum will be hosted on Wednesday, July 21 from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM Eastern. After a brief introduction by Dr. Susan Jensen, the forum will begin with a short presentation by two members of our SDP Training Faculty: Branko Terzic and Larry Kennedy. A discussion among Trainers and participants will follow. All are welcome - there is no participant limit for this program.
TopicsEnergy Storage Systems & New Technologies - What are emerging battery technologies?
- What is the role for hydrogen?
- Is there a future for compressed air?
- What are the related regulatory issues?
Electricity service is unique among utility service in that storage of produced “electricity” has been limited to a few technologies requiring a unique geographic attribute such as hydroelectric facilities and high elevation reservoirs. New battery, compressed air, hydrogen pyrolysis and other technologies may make electric storage viable at any point in the value chain. Attend this discussion to probe answers to the following questions: How mature are these technologies? How do we estimate depreciation rates for each technology? What impacts, if any, do these technologies have on depreciation rates of other assets?
