Hotel Information
Named for General Francis Marion, the “Swamp Fox” of the American Revolution, the hotel opened in 1924 as the largest and grandest in the Carolinas. It was originally built by local investors at a cost of $1.5 million from plans by noted New York architect W.L. Stoddart, who also built the gracious Poinsett Hotel in Greenville, SC. Throughout the years, many notable historic and famous clientele enjoyed the hotel’s full service and convenient location. In 1996, an extensive restoration earned the hotel the esteemed National Trust Award and once again the Francis Marion opened its doors as Charleston’s Grand Hotel. More recent refurbishments have added to the comforts of today and enhanced the hotel’s historic ambiance with sleek room décor reminiscent of the 1920’s grandeur.
Today, the hotel's traditional services continue to provide doorman and bell service, concierge, valet parking, room service, wireless Internet services, business center, newsstand, gift shop, Spa Adagio, Starbucks™ and a well-equipped fitness center. Guests can enjoy classic Southern cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner in The Swamp Fox Restaurant & Bar, a Charleston restaurant, known for its artfully prepared dishes using local farm fresh ingredients. Or simply relax with cocktails and jazz piano music in The Swamp Fox Bar.

Training
We invite you to take advantage of the exceptional training offered at the 2016 SDP Conference and Training. Our excellent courses are taught by recognized leaders in the field of depreciation. Over 90% of responses to our course evaluations rate our courses“good” or “excellent”.
This year, in response to your requests, we have expanded our class focusing on the engineering aspects of life analysis. And on Sunday we are adding a class discussing net salvage and the allocation of costs between cost of removal and capitalization. Also included on Sunday is a discussion of depreciation strategies and stranded cost recovery.
Our expert faculty will gladly share their extensive experience with you in courses with real-world applications. Trainees report that the skills acquired are readily transferable to one’s job. And the information is excellent preparation for the CDP exam. As an added benefit, trainees and instructors gather at informal evening receptions that provide valuable networking opportunities.
We have training to fit your needs! We offer four courses concurrently after the conference. Depreciation Fundamentals is an excellent overview course focusing on topics related to depreciation. In response to your requests, in the Life and Salvage Analysis course we have expanded the Gross Salvage and Cost of Removal class. In the course Analyzing the Life of Real-World Property, we have expanded the class probing the engineering reasons that cause assets to fail. Our final course walks you through Preparing and Supporting a Depreciation Study. These four concurrent courses are offered from Tuesday at 1:00 PM to Friday noon.
And there’s more! On Sunday afternoon before the Conference you may choose between two courses. The course Introduction to Depreciation offers a brief overview of depreciation topics. The course Depreciation and Ratemaking Issues is a more advanced course that this year includes a Gross Salvage and Cost of Removal class. These concurrent courses are offered Sunday from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Dr. Susan Jensen, CDP, will again coordinate the SDP Training.
